The sea stacks (above), which look magical beneath the rising or descending sun, are reason enough to make the trip to Rialto Beach. This stretch of shoreline is characterized by the Pacific Ocean's omnipresent roar, as well as its lush forestland. Great for walking, Rialto Beach features a sea arch called the Hole-in-the-Wall that is certainly worth a look and a photo. Split Rock is another landmark worth checking out. The setting is the perfect spot for a picnic, ball toss or jog as well. You can certainly camp nearby on James Island, but there are also tons of inns, motels, and bed and breakfasts in Port Angeles, which is just a hop away.
From tidal pools full of sea anemones to epic kite flying, this beach is unlike any other. The quaint town also ensures you'll feel incredibly welcome during your stay. As you enter this beach, your senses will be stimulated by the sound of powerful ocean waves, seabirds chirping and the sun shining. Indeed, Cannon Beach boasts a scene worthy of postcards. Haystack Rock, which measures 235 feet tall and features its own birdlife ecosystem, is the beach landmark; try to swim to it if you can. In addition to the beach, there is a lot to do here. For instance, you can go on a hike through Ecola State Park, where you can see the Oregon Coast's most dramatic views and possibly spot whales, or enjoy a live theater performance at Coaster Theatre. Cannon Beach is also the place to learn about the expeditions of Lewis and Clark. Furthermore, when it comes time to sleep, you'll find a great variety of options, such as RV parks, home rentals, campgrounds and motels.
Northern California falls within the Northwest category, and as one of the most aesthetically stunning areas of the world, it's only natural that one of its beaches would make this list. Simply put, Gold Bluffs Beach is phenomenal. This 10-mile stretch of golden sand is located beside Highway 101, and is known for its dazzling dunes, wandering elk and soft sand. The fishing, kayaking and surfing are renowned too. Additionally, the beach is a part of Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, so you can view the world's tallest trees throughout the trip. A great way to see all these big trees is to drive along the Redwood Scenic Parkway. Near the beach, you'll find any type of place to sleep, from hotels and house rentals to campgrounds and RV parks.
Sure, it may be cold in Alaska during a good portion of the year, but that doesn't mean there are no slices of sand worth your attention. Kincaid Beach, for instance, is right next to Anchorage and showcases lush sand, towering bluffs and views of Cook Inlet and Kennai Peninsula. Goose Lake is another option for visitors to Anchorage, as this lake is a popular swimming hole during the summer and features a 3-mile-long path for jogging and walking. The lake is also near the university, and that means plenty of eateries and shops are nearby if you get bored of beach-bumming. Even better, going on a beach vacation to Alaska means the chance to enjoy one of the great cities in America's final frontier. In this town where young spirits and adventurous souls thrive, you can do everything from watch grizzly bears to dine on salmon. In particular, the Alaska Native Heritage Center, Alaska Zoo, Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, and more are all worth seeing.
Yes, Idaho brings you more than just potatoes. But do be sure to eat some local potatoes while you're here. They're delicious. Anyway, this lake is simply marvelous, and is spacious enough for the most extreme of watersports. You'll realize that the moment you arrive. Also, with lots of golf courses, ample dining and drinking spots, as well as tons of shopping, you can certainly have fun away from the lake. Another attraction worth exploring is Coeur d'Alene City Park, as its expansive and natural layout is certain to impress. Don't forget to drive the Lake Coeur d'Alene Scenic Byway while you're here as well. Additionally, note that there is also basically any type of lodging you could want.
