Definition: “Baggage insurance” is a general term for travel insurance benefits that can protect your bags and possessions while you’re traveling. If your travel insurance plan includes baggage benefits, your insurer can reimburse you, up to the maximum shown on the Confirmation of Coverage, for covered loss, theft or damage to your baggage and personal effects. A deductible and certain exclusions may apply, and all losses must be reported to the airline, airport, police or other relevant authority.
To find out if your travel insurance plan includes baggage insurance benefits, read your policy documents and contact Allianz Global Assistance with any questions.
Example: You take an overnight train trip from Mumbai to Goa, and when you go to retrieve your backpack it’s just — not there. You report the theft to the railway and the police, but the bag never turns up. What are you going to do without all your clothes, shoes and toiletries?
Fortunately, you have baggage loss/damage benefits. Your travel insurance provider can reimburse you for the actual cash value of your belongings, less depreciation, or the cost to replace them, whichever is less.
