Definition: “Baggage insurance” is a general term for travel insurance benefits that can protect your bags and possessions while you’re traveling. If your travel insurance plan includes baggage benefits, your insurer can reimburse you, up to the maximum shown on the Confirmation of Coverage, for covered loss, theft or damage to your baggage and personal effects. Certain exclusions may apply, and all losses must be reported to the airline, airport, police or other relevant authority.
To find out if your travel insurance plan includes baggage insurance benefits, read your policy documents and contact Allianz Global Assistance with any questions.
Example: On your epic National Parks road trip, you return to your car after hiking in Bryce Canyon and make an unpleasant discovery. Someone broke into your car and stole all your brand new camping gear! What are you going to do?
Baggage loss/damage benefits can help. Your travel insurance provider can reimburse you for the actual cash value of your belongings, less depreciation, or the cost to replace them (whichever is less), up to the maximum benefit. You’re in luck: You still have the receipts for your things, which makes it super easy to file a claim. Now you can purchase new gear without blowing your budget.
