Definition: Your baggage is lost, damaged or stolen while you’re traveling. Travel insurance can reimburse you for the actual price, actual cash value, repair or replacement — whichever is less, based on the limits in your insurance policy’s letter of confirmation. To be eligible for this benefit, you must take reasonable steps to keep your baggage safe and recover it, as well as file a report with the appropriate authorities with all the needed details outlined in your policy.
Example: You checked into your hotel early and decided to check your bags at the front desk while they finished getting your room ready. Thirty minutes later, you get a call that your room is good to go, but when find the same valet you handed your bags to, he comes back 10 minutes later shrugging his shoulders. Poof, your garment bag is gone. Even more worrisome, a manager says you should have received a valet ticket, and that no one would have taken your bag without giving you one. It’s your words vs. his — and the valet isn’t budging. After looking around the lobby and trying to reason with the hotel staff once more as politely as possible, you file a police report, requesting a copy for your records. You rest assured knowing you have travel insurance a file a claim. And then you start crafting your review for a certain hotel you will no longer be patronizing…
